Expanded Radio: Radio WORM comes out from behind the glass for live gigs and special events with our regular radio makers and their guests, broadcast directly from inside the #Wunderbar. Grab a drink and join us in the foyer, or tune in online. Always free!
This week, Cinema Colombiano hosts a special Expanded Radio session dedicated to accordion music.
Iván Medellín is the accordionist of Romperayo and frontman of the band Conjunto Media Luna (https://conjuntomedialuna.bandcamp.com). To start off his residency at the WORM Sound Studio, he’ll be playing an experimental solo set in the foyer. The photographs of Stephanie Ascanio G. will accompany his music, with images from the scene in Bogotá. To explore the contrast between the European style of playing accordion and the (faster) Colombian way, we’ve also invited the amazing Dennis Weijers (https://modularaccordion.bandcamp.com/album/integrations), who performs contemporary music on accordion & modular synthesizer.
There will be talks, there will be music. Guest-dj and accordion connoisseur Mijo will share music from renowned Colombian musicians like Aníbal Velásquez and Alfredo Gutiérrez, while the team of Cinema Colombiano will include fragments from Colombian accordion films and series, such as El Acordeon del Diablo, about the origin of the accordion in Colombia, and Broken Idol: The Undoing of Diomedes Diaz – a Netflix-series about the dubious Diomedes for which Iván participated in the soundtrack.
