Join us as we delve into the work of María Luz Nóchez, a journalist from El Salvador, who is making an impact in the realm of Human Rights and investigative journalism.

María works at El Faro, a renowned news platform known for its commitment to exposing Human Rights abuses, impunity, and social inequalities. Through their investigative journalism, they have brought attention to critical issues, such as Human Rights violations against El Salvadoran prisoners.

During this event, we will premier a short documentary about El Salvador and María’s efforts to advocate for a.o. Women’s and LGBTQI+ Rights, despite the challenging landscape of threats against press freedom in her home country. This short documentary was created by Marcel Bettonville.

Additionally, we will screen Fly So Far, brought to us by the talented storyteller Celina Escher. In this documentary, Celina showcases the gut-wrenching story of 17 El Salvadoran women, who are unjustly imprisoned after experiencing obstetric emergencies. A true story of sorority, resilience, and solidarity.

We will engage in a discussion with María, in which she will share her firsthand experiences. In addition, we are delighted to announce that Dr. Julienne Weegels, an experienced academic in the field of Latin American Studies will join us in this discussion, forming a vibrant combination of theoretical expertise and real-world experience.
