This evening we say HELLO to Mattijs who is coming back from Colombia and GOODBYE to Karlijn who is almost leaving to be the new Catapa volunteer there. Also, this is the kick-off for the new activities of the Colombia Working Group in Belgium after the summer holidays.
While having a nice dinner and some drinks, Mattijs and Karlijn will tell us about their experiences and plans in Colombia. We will also explain what we do in the Colombia Working Group of CATAPA, and what tasks the volunteers in Belgium can do.
Join us if you are interested to meet Mattijs and Karlijn, if you want to know more about the work of Catapa in Colombia and/or if you want to start volunteering in the Colombia Working Group.
ABOUT CATAPA
Catapa is an environmental movement that supports local communities in Latin-America in their struggle against big mining companies and the negative (social, economic, environment) impacts of mining.
In Colombia, Catapa works in the village of Cajamarca and the local youth collective COSAJUCA to support their struggle against the arrival of a big gold mine. In March 2017, there was a succesful referendum against the arrival of the gold mine. Catapa and COSAJUCA still work in Cajamarca to promote alternative ways of development and support surrounding communities in organising referendums.
