The American Fraud: A Story of Honduran Migrants and the Country they Flee
Since a US-backed coup d’etat in 2009, violence has reigned on Honduras’ streets. In 2014, the migration of unaccompanied minors from Central America hit an all-time high, with most arriving at the US border from Honduras. In 2018 and 2019, the mass exodus continued in the form of migrant caravans, and today – despite a global pandemic – migration has not stopped.
The American Fraud explores the roots of Honduras’ mass outward migration, and the role that the United States has played in shaping the country’s ongoing crisis that forces so many to flee their homes.
There will also be a presentation by one of the film’s directors, Antonia McGrath. Antonia lived and worked in Honduras in 2014/15 and went on to co-found educate., a non-profit supporting youth empowerment through education in Honduras.
